Editorial: Make buckling up part of your daily routine

Published: May 29th, 2008 03:12 PM

It’s hard to imagine there are still people out there who don’t wear a seat belt, despite all the studies and stories showing how successful they are at preventing serious injuries and death. According to the Harborview Injury Research and Prevention Center, proper use of a seat belt can reduce the risk of death in an accident by 70 percent.

But in little more than five hours during the first night of the Click it or Ticket campaign, three Puyallup police officers handed out 20 citations. There was also an infraction for child passenger safety.

Several Pierce Country law enforcement agencies will continue patrolling for seat belt use through June 1. Don’t just buckle up for the next few days.
