Editorial: Edgewood’s future will benefit from wide search

Published: February 29th, 2008 12:28 PM

Edgewood has never been close to bankruptcy like many residents feared a few years ago, but they have always had a tight budget with little wiggle room.

Now, the city is growing by leaps and bounds. There have several projects in the works, including a new city hall/community center, a sewer line along Meridian and widening of Meridian next year. Edgewood will need a solid city manager to lead these projects.

Former City Manager Henry Lawrence left at the beginning of the year when he felt he had lost the support of the city council. The council has hired a Seattle-based firm for $18,000 to help find his replacement.

It’s encouraging to see the city look beyond its city limits for qualified candidates and it should be reassuring to residents. The ultimate new city manager must have the full support of council to lead the city through a challenging period.
