Jan. 3 — Sk8 Park will require involvement for its success

Published: January 3rd, 2008 02:57 PM

The new year will bring a second chance for the Sumner Sk8 Park, which has been closed since September because of reports of vandalism, drug use and fighting.

After coming up with a new set of rules and installing security cameras and fencing, the park will open sometime around the beginning of February. The security cameras have a live feed to the Internet, allowing police to visually check when there is a 911 call and for parents to supervise from home. This allows everyone in the community to take part in making sure this second chance is a success.

To keep the Sk8 Park open in the future, it will be important to have the involvement of the whole community. That’s why Sumner police have made an effort to connect with local teens and the city asked for input from the entire community when coming up with solutions for saving the park.

Once it is up and running in a month, the community should continue that involvement.
