Tiffany’s Speed Team Inline Skating coach Dennis King Jr. couldn’t have been more proud of four members of his squad during the Outdoor Inline Speed Skating National Championships on June 17-18 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Katie Grimm and Scott Stubblefield placed 10th overall in their respective track and road divisions and Misha Averill and Chris Slocum competed at nationals as well.
“We had two (Grimm and Stubblefield) of our four competitors at nationals qualify for the national team,” King said. “We were the only team to send two competitors on in all of Washington.”
The national team is comprised of those individuals in the World Class and Junior World Class divisions that received a maximum of six points at the 2008 Outdoor National Championships.
King applauded the performance of Averill and Slocum even though they didn’t place in their events.
“They both skated extremely well,” King said. “They came up a little short but I’m very proud of how well they did. Our whole team at Nationals did exceptionally well. Every single skater that competed had their best races of the season.”
King said seeing athletes compete admirably at the highest level possible is a rewarding experience.
“It was exhilarating. Seeing these athletes have a dream and a goal and reach the pinnacle is a great feeling,” King, Jr. said. “It all came to fruition. It’s exciting seeing them achieve what they set out to. I’m proud of every one of them.”
King is excited about his entire team’s chances for success at the Inline Skating Indoor National Championships currently taking place until July 18 in Lincoln, Neb.
“Our team should do well at the indoors this coming week,” King said. “I’m excited about what we can do out there. It should be a lot of fun. We have some good skaters.”
