Cougars display a no-quit attitude against the toughest opponent in

When the Cascade Christian Cougars boys soccer team took the field against the Vashon Island Pirates on April 24 at Bonney Lake High School, they sure didn’t look like a team that’s won only one game thus far this regular season.
Despite seeing his team fall 5-1 to the Nisqually League’s powerhouse, Cascade Christian head coach Keith Patefield said his squad gave it everything they had against the Nisqually League’s top ranked team.
“The kids are working hard and are pushing to do as well as they can,” Patefield said. “They’re sticking together and didn’t give up against a pretty good team.”
Cougars midfielder Chris Peterson scored their lone goal of the contest in the second half.
“Chris kicked it pretty hard. It bounced off of one of their defenders and went right into the lower left part of the goal,” Patefield said.
Patefield said his team nearly defeated the Pirates on their home field when they faced off on April 14 at Vashon Island.
“We lost 3-2. It was a pretty close game,” Patefield said. “I wish we would have performed like we did when we played earlier this year.”
Even though the Cougars are currently sporting an overall record of 1-9. Patefield said they give 100 percent effort every time they step on the field.
“As a team we might be disappointed with our record but we’re not disappointed with the effort,” Patefield said. “The entire team is working hard and doing the best they possibly can. That’s all you can ask for.”
