Kelsey Hamilton’s stalwart play as a goalie is a major reason why the Rogers Rams water polo team has compiled a 4-1 early season record.
Hamilton, who is currently a junior, enjoys the challenge of being the Rams last line of defense.
“I like playing goalie. When you’re a goalie you have a lot of leadership responsibilities. It feels like the game depends you sometimes. Like it is up to you,” Hamilton said. “Our defense does a great job of stopping other teams we face. We want to keep other teams from scoring as much as we can. I hope our team can keep it going.”
Rogers Rams head coach Debbie Turver is glad she has Hamilton on her team.
“She’s been doing a great job for us this season,” Turver said. “She’s been a big reason why we’ve been having as much success as we are right now.”
Recently, I had an opportunity to ask Kelsey, a few questions about her life away from her favorite sport, water polo.
Shaun Scott: What is your favorite movie of all time?
Kelsey Hamilton: “Zoolander.” “It’s a hilarious movie. Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller together is the best combination ever.”
SS: Where do you see yourself five years from now?
KH: “Hopefully graduated from college and applying to medical school. After that then probably starting a family and all that other stuff.”
SS: Who was your idol growing up?
KH: “My older sister is one of my biggest idols. She’s just always been my role model. Every sport she played was a sport I wanted to play. She’s my inspiration.”
SS: If you could pick one person to go to dinner with, who would it be?
KH: “I’m going to have to go with my grandpa. I’ve never met him before. I would have loved to get to know him.”
SS: What is the last book you’ve read?
KH: “The last book I read was in AP History class. It was called “The People’s History of the United States.” The author of the book was Howard Zin. I wouldn’t suggest reading it.”
SS: If you could pick one restaurant in Puyallup to dine at, where would it be?
KH: “I’m going with the Olive Garden. They have delicious bread sticks. Italian food is an amazing thing to eat before a Water Polo game. It gives you a lot of energy.”
