The Emerald Ridge Jaguars boys soccer team collected their third victory of the season by the slimmest of margins.
In one of the most frigid late March games in recent memory according to head coach David Rosdahl, Emerald Ridge’s boys soccer team (3-2 overall record) registered a 1-0 victory against the Graham-Kapowsin Eagles on March 28 at Bethel High School.
“It was very cold which kind of made it a sloppy game,” Rosdahl said. “But a win is a win and we’ll take that every time and take it as they come.”
Sophomore forward Suku Hudson put the Jaguars out in front for good after scoring the only goal of the game in the 20th minute.
“It was kind of a broken play. It was a loose ball,” Rosdahl said. “Suku happened to get the ball and he just got it past their goalie for the score. We needed that goal.”
Emerald Ridge goalie’s Kevin Weeks and Tommy Todd combined for a shutout between the posts.
“Kevin played the first half. He has a knee problem so I gave him the second half off and Tommy came in,” Rosdahl said. “Graham-Kapowsin had some pretty good shots on goal but Tommy made the saves that he needed to make for us.”
Rosdahl praised stopper Chanuk Park and midfielder Teddy Ciocca for playing admiral defense in front of Emerald Ridge’s goalies.
“Both Teddy and Chanuk played good in the middle of the field,” Rosdahl said. “They held things together for us and were one of the reasons why we shut them out.”
Rosdahl said he was looking forward to a huge SPSL contest this week.
The Jaguars faced Curtis on April 2. As of press time, results of this contest were unavailable.
“That’s a big game for us during Spring Break,” Rosdahl said. “After a few games this week we’ll have a little better idea of where we stand in the league. A lot of the top teams all play each other.”
The defense rose to the occasion once again, as the Jaguars played the Puyallup Vikings to a 1-1 tie on March 31 at Sparks Stadium.
Ciocca tied the game on a penalty kick for the Jaguars lone score of the contest in the second half.
